What I am loving and reading in June

What I’m loving

Our library’s Get Out & Go Program

This summer our library is participating in a program to get families more active. They gave out booklets that listed many local parks and hiking trails. Each location has marker posts with unique etchings for the kids to rub on a rubbing sheet. The rubbings are then submitted for a chance to win prizes. The more rubbings you have, the greater the chance at winning.

We have been packing a lunch and hitting one or two of them every weekend. It has been so much fun to check out places in our area we haven’t been, and to get some exercise in while we do it.

African black soap

I have been struggling with serious acne over the past 6 months and, while I try really hard to use natural beauty products, I was about ready to throw in the towel and try anything that would help. But someone recommended African black soap, which is a natural product. I have been using it for about 2 months now and I have seen a huge improvement with my acne. It also doesn’t hurt that it costs less than $4! I linked to the brand I have been using, but there are a bunch of options out there.

Black raspberry and peach cobbler

Everyone needs to try this black raspberry and peach cobbler — it is amazing. It is like close-your-eyes-and-savor-it kind of amazing. Eat it while it is still warm because the sugar caramelizes on top and makes a tasty crispy layer. It is just not the same the next day (still really good, just not the same). Also, it is super thin so if you are feeding a bunch of people, make 2 pans.

What I’m reading

This is disappointing on so many levels, but I haven’t read anything in June. Ok, that isn’t really true, I had a 30-day free trial of Kindle Unlimited so I read a lot of fiction. Nothing particularly worth mentioning, though. Since finishing our school year, we have been overwhelmingly busy, so fiction is pretty much all I have had the mental energy for. Hopefully, I will get back to normal life in July.
