What I’m loving & reading in August 2018
What I’m loving
All the Boys I’ve Loved Before on Netflix
I really loved this cute teenage romantic comedy, it was so fun. I may have watched it twice recently, that is how much I like it.
I Feel Pretty
Carlos and I rented the movie I Feel Pretty over the summer and both of us really liked it. It was a fun romantic comedy with great commentary on body image and confidence. I was still thinking about those themes for days after watching it, so I would say that it was a success.
Harry Potter
I know I am super behind on the times here, but my goodness did I love the Harry Potter series this summer. I am all in, and by that I mean I even bought my kids costumes and books about the series.
I also can not recommend the audio version enough. We checked the CD’s out of the library, and all of us got sucked into Jim Dale’s Narration. After the first book, I stopped reading it out loud for Judah because the audio version was so well done.
What I’m reading
The Path Between Us by Suzanne Stabile
I love the Enneagram and have found it to be incredibly helpful in my life over the past few years, so of course, The Path Between Us seemed like a perfect fit for me. This book is very approachable and easy to read, but I would have preferred just a little more depth. It might be a good option for people who only have a basic intro to the Enneagram.
The Hate U Give by Angie Thomas
From Amazon: Sixteen-year-old Starr Carter moves between two worlds: the poor neighborhood where she lives and the fancy suburban prep school she attends. The uneasy balance between these worlds is shattered when Starr witnesses the fatal shooting of her childhood best friend Khalil at the hands of a police officer. Khalil was unarmed.
Soon afterward, his death is a national headline. Some are calling him a thug, maybe even a drug dealer and a gangbanger. Protesters are taking to the streets in Khalil’s name. Some cops and the local drug lord try to intimidate Starr and her family. What everyone wants to know is: what really went down that night? And the only person alive who can answer that is Starr.
