What I’m loving in July

What I’m loving

Shapewear

I heard about Hi-Waist Shapewear from Megan on Sorta Awesome Podcast and thought it was a great idea. Like her, I often wear dresses or skirts most of the summer and I sort of miss the feeling of everything being sucked in that comes from wearing jeans (I have had 4 babies, and my stomach can use all the help it can get!). I bought Maidenform Shapewear at Target after hearing about it and I honestly really love it. For me is more about feeling pulled together than looking different, but I won’t complain about that added benefit.

Secondhand Lions

Secondhand Lions” is a movie from 2003, and I just recently rewatched it. Carlos and I both really like it. It is a fun, light-hearted adventure story. I tend to think it is a fun movie for older boys since it is about adventure and growing up. There is some profanity so keep that in mind when you are deciding if it is appropriate for your kids. Our county’s library system had a few copies of this movie so check with your library instead of renting it and save a few dollars.

What I’m Reading

the new jim crow

‘The New Jim Crow’ by Michelle Alexander

Given the conversations happening about race now, I feel like I need to become more educated than I am. I added several books to my library list and “The New Jim Crow” is the first one. Honestly, I really feel like I am getting an education on things I was not aware of, even just in terms of the history of racial issues in our country. I am still only halfway through the book, but so far I would recommend opening yourself up to seeing things in a way you might not have been exposed to in your own life.

the hormone cure

‘The Hormone Cure’ by Dr. Sarah Gottfried

I recently checked “The Hormone Cure” out of the library and found it helpful. I feel like her tips on improving your hormone balance are very doable and practical. I was able to take the quiz in the beginning of the book and then go right to the chapters that I needed help with. After reading it, I have been much more motivated to take my vitamins and fish oil pills consistently, which is something so simple to do but I don’t always keep up.

a noble masc

The Hawthorne House series by Kristi Ann Hunter

I really enjoyed these romantic fiction books from the Hawthorne House series, set in the Regency era. The first book, “A Lady of Esteem,” is a novella and is free for the Kindle. I ended up liking it enough to buy the next 2 (which doesn’t often happen).
