Stocking your car for kid emergencies
The change in season means it is time to update my stash of kid supplies in the car — a stash for the inevitable kid emergencies, like my 2-year-old jumping in a puddle and ending up completely wet in the middle of winter.
Every fall and spring I switch out a bin of clothing to make sure each kid has an extra full outfit for the coming season — all the way down to socks and underwear. For winter, I also have a hat and a pair of gloves.
If you don’t already have an emergency stash in your car, I highly recommend it. Our van has Stow ‘n Go® seating, so I keep my supplies in the floor of our van.
In addition to the bin of clothing, I keep sweatshirts for every family member, diapers, a first aid kit, instant ice packs, a blanket, a toddler potty, and a bag of activities (like cars, crayons, and a dice game), which is nice to grab if we unexpectedly have a long wait for something.
Can I just take a minute here and share a brilliant idea for using a toddler potty while away from home? Put an open diaper in the bottom, then you can roll it up when your child is done — no cleanup involved. Whoever thought of that is a genius!
Is there anything I am missing that I should add to my kids’ emergency stash?
